Critical Crimea-Russia Bridge Damaged

The Kerch Bridge, which links the Crimean peninsula to Russia, was closed early on Monday following an “emergency” in which two people were killed and a child was injured in explosions.

“There is damage to the roadway on spans of the Crimean Bridge,” the Ministry of Transport reported via Telegram. The bridge’s spans are the distances between the piers.

In October of last year, a massive explosion partially damaged the bridge, causing portions of it to collapse. Russia said the attack on the bridge was carried out by Ukraine. Months later, Ukraine acknowledged the attack only indirectly.

Traffic on the bridge, a crucial logistical node for Moscow’s military in its war against Ukraine, was halted after an “emergency incident”, according to Russia’s Russia-appointed head of Crimea, Sergey Aksenov.

Grey Zone and well-known Crimean blogger ‘TalipoV Online Z’ reported on Telegram that explosions were heard at 3:04 and 3:20 a.m. local time.

Ukrainian military administration spokesman Serhiy Bratchuk shared a photo on his Telegram account that appeared to show a damaged section of the bridge.
