Israeli warplanes targeted the Iranian embassy in Syria on Monday, allegedly killing seven military advisers, three of whom were senior commanders, according to Iran.
The consular building within the embassy compound was the target of the strike, according to the Iranian ambassador to Syria.
A senior commander of Iran’s Quds Force, an elite foreign espionage and paramilitary organization, Mohammad Reza Zahedi, was among the seven Iranian military advisers killed in the strike, according to a statement from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
Monday’s assault marked the first instance in which Israel specifically targeted the expansive embassy compound, but it has historically targeted Iranian military installations in Syria and those of its proxies.
