Israeli forces engaged in a battle against Hamas in various regions of the Gaza Strip on Tuesday. Palestinian health officials reported that Israeli bombardments in the southern and central regions resulted in the deaths of at least 57 people.

Israeli attacks on Gaza have intensified, according to Hamas, in an attempt to thwart peace talks between Israel, Arab mediators, and the US. In its defense, Israel claims it is actively seeking to bring down Hamas militants.

Health officials reported that an Israeli air strike targeted a school under UN supervision that housed displaced families in the Nuseirat camp, resulting in 23 deaths and numerous injuries.

In a statement, the Israeli military declared that it had engaged in an attack on a group of “terrorists” who were operating from within the school. The military had taken precautions to reduce the risk to civilians.

Israel declared its intention to eliminate Hamas following an attack on southern Israeli communities on October 7, during which its militants killed 1,200 individuals and abducted more than 250 hostages, according to Israeli tallies.

The failure of three days to produce a viable outcome and an Israeli strike that targeted Hamas’ top military chief led to the halt of negotiations to resolve the conflict on Saturday, according to Egyptian security sources.
