In Beirut, Israel executed a horrific airstrike that resulted in the death of Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah. This attack dealt a severe blow to the Iran-backed organization, which is currently grappling with an intensifying Israeli attack campaign.

The Israeli military declared on Saturday that the strike on the group’s central command headquarters in the southern suburbs of Beirut had eliminated Nasrallah. Hezbollah confirmed his death.

Benjamin Netanyahu, the Israeli Prime Minister, characterized Nasrallah’s death as an essential measure in the process of altering the balance of power in the region for the near future.

U.S. President Joe Biden expressed full support for Israel’s right to self-defense and saw Nasrallah’s death as a just punishment for the thousands of American, Israeli, and Lebanese victims.

Iranian media reported that the Israeli attacks in Beirut on Friday also killed deputy commander Abbas Nilforoushan, a senior member of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards.

After Nasrallah’s death, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the Iranian Supreme Leader, moved to a secure location in Iran.

Iran subsequently requested a meeting of the United Nations Security Council to address Israel’s operations in Lebanon.

Israeli strikes in Lebanon on Saturday resulted in 33 deaths and 195 injuries, according to the Lebanese health ministry.

Nasser Yassin, the minister responsible for the government’s crisis response, told reporters that the strikes have resulted in the displacement of approximately one million Lebanese, including hundreds of thousands since Friday. The health ministry has reported that the past two weeks have resulted in over 1,000 deaths and over 6,000 injuries.
