President Joe Biden told reporters once again on January 30 that President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine would not receive any F-16 fighter jets from the United States.
Since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February, the country’s leader has repeatedly pushed for the purchase of Western-made fighter jets. Even though some NATO members have recently hinted that they might agree to the request, the U.S. has kept sending artillery, armor, and ground-based air defense systems to Ukraine as their top priority.
Biden’s comments came after Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki told reporters that Poland would only transfer aircraft to Ukraine if the move was agreed upon by NATO countries.
In a statement made this month, Dutch Foreign Minister Wopke Hoekstra indicated that his country would consider a request from Ukraine for F-16 fighter jets with a “open mind.”
