The defense ministry of Bulgaria announced that the Bulgarian navy detonated a naval mine that had drifted close to the Bulgarian coast of the Black Sea on January 23.
After Russia’s invasion of Ukraine on February 24th, mines were spotted floating in the Black Sea. Romanian, Bulgarian, and Turkish special-ops divers have been clearing the waterways of their respective countries of those that have drifted in.
The MoD reported that early on Monday morning, a naval mine-looking object was spotted about 200 meters (220 yards) off the coast of the Black Sea near the village of Tulenovo in northeastern Bulgaria.
