President Tayyip Erdogan expressed Turkey’s solidarity with Lebanon in the face of the increasing tensions with Israel and urged other regional countries to provide their own support for Beirut.
The recent weeks have seen a significant increase in cross-border tensions between Israel and Lebanon’s Hezbollah, which has fueled concerns about the possibility of an all-out Israel-Hezbollah war. Shelling has forced tens of thousands of individuals to evacuate from regions on both sides of Israel’s northern border.
Erdogan declared in a speech to his AK Party lawmakers in parliament that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu intended to enlarge the Gaza conflict to encompass the region.
“Turkey is in solidarity with Lebanon’s brotherly people and state.” According to him, “I urge other nations in the region to demonstrate their support for Lebanon.”
Erdogan’s office announced late on Wednesday that the president conversed with Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati via telephone and reiterated Turkey’s support for Lebanon in opposition to Israel’s aggressive policies.
