The Israeli cabinet will vote on a ceasefire agreement with Lebanon today. The objective of the US-supported proposal is to establish a 60-day ceasefire with Hezbollah, which some believe could serve as the foundation for a permanent ceasefire.
CNN reports that Netanyahu signified his potential backing of the approaching ceasefire with Hezbollah during a security consultation with Israeli officials on Sunday.
Israel started a major assault against Hezbollah in September, sending troops into southern Lebanon, conducting waves of strikes, and killing top commanders. The stated objective of the war was to enable displaced Israelis to return to northern regions.
Since then, Lebanon has seen more than 3,000 deaths. This has resulted in the displacement of over one million Lebanese residents.
The war between Israel and Hamas rages on in Gaza. The International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants last week, accusing Netanyahu, Yoav Gallant, and a senior Hamas official of war crimes committed in the Palestinian enclave.
