Presidents Macron of France and von der Leyen of the European Commission have begun a three-day state visit to China on Wednesday, during which they will meet with President Xi Jinping.
All eyes will be on Macron and von der Leyen as they meet with the Chinese leadership about the war in Ukraine. Macron is accompanied by a delegation of several CEOs and meets with the French business community.
Before meeting Xi, Macron met with Premier Li Qiang, and the two leaders participated in a lavish ceremony outside the Great Hall, where they were treated to a 21-gun salute and walked along a red carpet.
According to CCTV, Xi told an audience that China and France should work together despite their “differences” and “restraints” because of the world’s current historical moment.
