NATO Chief: Europe will Fund US Arms for Ukraine

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte on Thursday urged the U.S. to continue providing Ukraine with weapons and stated that Europe would cover the cost.

At a World Economic Forum event in Davos, the NATO chief said that the alliance must allocate a greater portion of its budget to assistance for Ukraine, increase defense industrial production, and allocate more resources to defense.

“On Ukraine, we need U.S. also to stay involved,” Rutte emphasized.

The secretary general’s remarks followed as US President Donald Trump stated earlier this week that the European Union should do more to support Ukraine.

Rutte added in Davos that it was critical Russia lost so Vladimir Putin wouldn’t be able to high-five the heads of North Korea and China.

“We really have to step up and not scale back our support for Ukraine,” the NATO chief stated. “The frontline is moving in the wrong direction.”
