NATO Allies voted on Tuesday (July 4, 2023) to extend Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg’s term until October 1, 2024, by an additional year. Next week at the Vilnius Summit, NATO Heads of State and Government will endorse the decision.

Former Norwegian Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg has served as the head of NATO since 2014, and his term has been extended three times so far.

In the face of unusual security threats, the allies expressed their thanks to the Secretary General for his leadership and dedication.

Mr. Stoltenberg said: “I am honored by the decision of NATO Allies to extend my term as Secretary General. The transatlantic bond between Europe and North America has ensured our freedom and security for nearly seventy-five years, and in a more dangerous world, our great Alliance is more important than ever.”
