Pager Explosions Targeted Hezbollah and Injured Thousands

Hezbollah has pledged to respond to the Israeli attack on Tuesday that killed several people and hurt thousands more across Lebanon.

The attack happened when the pagers of members of the Iran-backed militant group exploded almost simultaneously, revealing a huge security hole and showing how powerful Israeli intelligence is.

Lebanese Health Minister Firass Abiad said that the blasts, which resulted in approximately 2,800 injuries, resulted in the deaths of at least nine individuals, including a child. He stated that a minimum of 170 individuals are in a critical condition, although the nature of the remaining injuries is uncertain.

The explosions were the result of a joint operation between the Israeli military and Israel’s intelligence service, Mossad, as international news agencies learned. Although the Israeli military was unwilling to provide commentary on the explosions, Lebanon and Hezbollah have attributed the attack to it. Iran also blamed the incident on “Israeli terrorism.”

There has been speculation about the potential exploits of low-tech wireless communication devices. The New York Times reported on Tuesday that Israel concealed explosives in a shipment of pagers it ordered from the Taiwanese manufacturer Gold Apollo for Hezbollah. The report stated that Israel used an embedded switch to remotely detonate the explosives.

A European distributor manufactured the pagers utilized in the attack, according to Gold Apollo’s chairperson and founder, who informed reporters on Wednesday. Hsu Ching-kuang stated that his company had inked a deal to use the Gold Apollo name with the distributor.

On Tuesday evening, Hezbollah vowed that the criminal and treacherous enemy would surely face justifiable retribution for this sinful assault, using both anticipated and unforeseen methods.

Hezbollah has long prioritized secrecy over high-tech devices to avoid Israeli and US spying.

Iran’s Ambassador to Lebanon, Mojtaba Amani, was among the individuals injured in Beirut, along with two embassy employees, according to Iranian state media.
