Israeli air strikes in an area in the southern Gaza Strip city of Rafah resulted in the deaths of at least 35 Palestinians and the injuries of dozens, Palestinian health and civil emergency service officials reported.
The Israeli military has reported that its air force conducted a strike on a Hamas compound in Rafah, utilizing precise ammunition and intelligence. It claimed that it eliminated Hamas’ chief of staff for the West Bank and an additional senior official who was responsible for deadly attacks against Israelis.
The strike occurred in the Tel Al-Sultan neighborhood of western Rafah, where thousands of individuals were seeking refuge after many fled the eastern neighborhoods of the city, where Israeli forces initiated a ground offensive over two weeks ago.
The International Committee of the Red Cross reported that its field hospital in Rafah was experiencing an increase in the number of casualties, and that other hospitals were also accommodating a significant number of patients.
Israel continued operations in the Gaza Strip on Sunday, despite a ruling by the top U.N. court ordering it to stop attacking the city. The Israeli military reported detecting eight projectiles crossing from the Rafah area.
Later on Sunday, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was to meet with his war cabinet to discuss the ongoing operations in Rafah.
According to local medical services, Israeli strikes led to the deaths of at least five Palestinians in Rafah on Sunday.
