Russia Intensifies Attacks On Ukraine Before May 9

Russia increased its attacks on Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities as it prepared to celebrate its national Victory Day, which commemorates the 1945 victory over Nazi Germany.

The General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces issued a morning update on the fighting, stating that a total of 61 airstrikes and 52 rocket salvos had been launched at Ukrainian positions and populated areas, with 16 missile strikes targeting the cities of Kharkiv, Kherson, Mykolaiv, and Odesa regions.

According to the Ukrainian military, all 35 Russian Shahed drones were shot down by Ukrainian air defenses.

At least five people were injured, according to Kyiv’s mayor, and a fuel depot, vehicles, buildings, and infrastructure were all damaged.

Russia has increased its shelling of Bakhmut in an effort to capture the city by Tuesday, according to the Ukrainian general commanding the defense of the besieged city. This comes after the Russian Wagner mercenary group appeared to abandon its withdrawal plans from the city.
