Russia Warns Greece Not to Transfer S-300 to Ukraine

In an interview with the Russian state news agency RIA Novosti, Russia’s Permanent Representative of Crimea Georgy Muradov warned that giving the S-300 to Ukraine was a risky move for Athens.

Despite Russia’s history of friendly relations with Greece and the Republic of Cyprus, which resulted in the delivery of S-300 anti-aircraft defense systems at the turn of the century, he asserts that Kiev’s agents in Greece are pressuring Athens to weaken the country’s defenses.

Greece’s Defense Minister Nikos Panagiotopoulos has previously admitted that his country is willing to transfer S-300 air defense systems from Crete to Ukraine in exchange for the United States installing the Patriot system.
