Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu has visited the headquarters of the “Centre” army group in the Ukrainian conflict, Russian news agencies reported on Friday.

According to Interfax, Shoigu received a briefing from a group commander and thanked officers and soldiers for “conducting successful operations” near Lyman. He also saw a Swedish CV-90 infantry fighting vehicle that Ukrainian soldiers had left behind.

General Valery Gerasimov, the head of the Russian general staff and the overall commander of the Russian war effort in Ukraine, visited the front lines just days before Shoigu’s trip.

Wagner mercenary group leader Yevgeny Prigozhin strongly criticized both Gerasimov and Shoigu in June, accusing them of incompetence and remoteness before launching a brief mutiny.
