The state-owned VTB Bank, Russia’s second-largest bank, claims it is under the largest distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack in its history on Dec. 6.
Customers cannot access the bank’s website or mobile application due to the attack. The bank added that the attack did not compromise customer data.
VTB said that it had been able to stop the DDoS attack, which is when hackers try to flood a system with too much data traffic.
As a result of the recent events in Ukraine, cyberattacks have been made on Russian government agencies and state-owned businesses. This has caused temporary service disruptions or outages.
According to VTB, most of the attacks originated from outside of Russia, but the company is especially worried about traffic originating from Russian IP addresses. VTB added that it would provide law enforcement with all identified Russian IP addresses.
