Ukraine To Discuss US Security Warrants

The chief of staff for President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said on Sunday that talks would begin with the United States this week to discuss security guarantees for Kyiv while the country waits for the completion of the process of joining NATO.

Andriy Yermak also posted on Telegram that officials from a number of countries were planning to meet in Saudi Arabia to discuss Zelenskiy’s peace plan for Ukraine, which hinges on the withdrawal of all Russian troops. He also said that there would be three stages of discussion before a summit of nation-state leaders.

The next meeting will be held in Jeddah on August 5 and 6.

The G7 pledged at the NATO summit in Lithuania earlier this month to create and uphold security guarantees, prompting the current discussions with the United States.

At the Vilnius summit, the Western Alliance pledged its support to Ukraine in its fight against Russia’s invasion, and individual countries promised new weapons. However, as long as the conflict persists, no date has been set for Ukraine to join the alliance.
