Ukraine: US and Ukraine Reached Agreement on Natural Resources and Reconstruction

Must read

President Volodymyr Zelensky will soon visit the nation’s capital following an agreement between the US and Ukraine over natural resources and reconstruction, according to a Ukrainian official.

For days, negotiators have been trying to reach an agreement that would allow the United States to use rare earth minerals extracted from Ukraine in a reconstruction fund for the country and put an end to Russia’s invasion.

The Ukrainian official said that the terms were agreed upon after all objectionable elements were removed from the text. The official also emphasized the agreement’s explicit contribution to Ukraine’s security and peace.

The agreement’s specifics are not yet known, but the Trump administration’s demand for a $500 billion share of Ukraine’s rare earths and other minerals as payment for the aid the US gave Kyiv was an important hurdle. Zelensky had previously rejected this demand.

There is no confirmation from the United States about the terms of a deal.
