US to Sell Israel $8 Billion Arms

The administration of U.S. President Joe Biden has informed Congress of a proposed $8 billion arms sale to Israel. This sale demonstrates Washington’s continued support for its ally during the Gaza War, which has resulted in the deaths of tens of thousands of people.

Committees in both the House and the Senate must approve the deal, which includes armament for attack helicopters, fighter jets, and artillery shells.

The majority of the munitions deliveries would require several years to be delivered, while some could be provided from current U.S. stock, according to a source.

A U.S. official said that the package contains AIM-120C-8 air-to-air missiles, 155mm artillery shells, Hellfire AGM-114 missiles, and $6.75 billion worth of other bombs and guidance systems, as well as protection against drones and other aerial threats.

U.S. policy has stayed mostly unchanged despite months of protesters demanding an arms embargo against Israel. The US government approved the sale of $20 billion worth of fighter jets and other military hardware in August.

The Biden administration claims to be aiding its ally in fighting Iran-backed militant groups like Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Houthis.
