Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy spoke to the UN Security Council on Tuesday, stating that talks alone will not end the war between Russia and Ukraine; instead, Moscow must be forced into peace.
Zelenskiy has been trying to unite Western leaders behind his “victory plan” to put an end to the war.
The war will end, according to Zelenskiy, but not because “someone got tired of the war” or as a result of a trade with Russian President Vladimir Putin, as has been suggested in order to resolve the war.
Zelenskiy expressed his gratitude to the nations that have supported Ukraine and criticized North Korea and Iran for providing Russia with weapons for the war, referring to them as Moscow’s “de facto accomplices.”
Ukraine’s future is uncertain. Former President Donald Trump’s Nov. 5 election victory over Vice President Kamala Harris could reset Washington’s policy on Ukraine, which relies on U.S. military and financial support. U.S. polls show a close race.
Russia has advanced eastward since the start of the invasion and controls around 20% of Ukrainian territory.
