Brussels Hosts NATO Chiefs of Defence

The NATO Military Committee held a Chiefs of Defense format meeting on January 18 and 19, in Brussels, with the addition of invitees Finland and Sweden.

The Chiefs of Defence met to discuss enhancing the Alliance’s defense and deterrence posture through increased readiness, the development of capabilities, and the interlinking of national and NATO military planning.

During the joint press conference after the meeting on January 19, Chair of the NATO military committee, Admiral Rob Bauer, stated, “The focus of this meeting was on collective defence. Russia’s unprovoked and brutal war in Ukraine has ushered in a new era for global security. Together, the Allied Chiefs of Defence and their counterparts from Invitees Finland and Sweden discussed the ways in which NATO is reinforcing its Deterrence and Defence.” And he continued, “Today, the Chiefs of Defence met with their KFOR operational partners to discuss the situation on the ground and the security environment.” “We also discussed NATO’s non-combat and capacity building Mission in Iraq with our operational partners Sweden, Finland, and Australia.”
