The contract for mid-life refurbishment (MLR) of the Hellenic Air Force’s SCALP missiles was signed on May, 11 2023, further cementing MBDA’s strong ties to Greece.
Mission planning products, maintenance, and technical assistance are all a part of this MLR contract for the Hellenic Air Force’s (HAF) SCALP missiles. This will ensure the weapon maintains its operational superiority against new threats for a longer period of time.
Eric Béranger, CEO of MBDA, said: “The signing of this contract has a particular meaning for MBDA, coming 55 years after we signed our first-ever Exocet contract with Greece. Our commitment since then never faltered and we are very honored by this additional expression of trust from the Hellenic Air Forces towards MBDA for the mid-life refurbishment of these SCALP missiles. This is again reinforcing our commitment to continue to deliver key sovereign capabilities that provide the best solutions to meet the requirements of the Hellenic Armed Forces customer.”
Both the Mirage 2000-5 and the Rafale fighter planes in the Hellenic Air Force are armed with SCALP missiles. These missiles were originally ordered as part of the Mirage 2000-5’s armament package, and are now being refurbished mid-life. The 18 Rafale aircraft ordered by Greece in 2021 and the 6 Rafale aircraft ordered by the country in 2022 both include SCALP missiles as part of their weapon packages.
