Ukraine: Missiles Hit Russian Warships

Must read

The Ukrainian navy reported that a Ukrainian missile attack damaged a Russian naval reconnaissance vessel and a sizable landing warship, both of which Moscow had captured from Kiev during the 2014 annexation of the Crimean peninsula.

The Ukrainian navy reportedly hit two warships, the large landing ships Azov and Yamal, during a weekend assault on Crimea.

A Neptune anti-ship missile, according to the navy, struck the large landing ship Konstantin Olshansky, causing damage that Kiev is still assessing.

Currently, this ship is not combat-capable and Ivan Khurs reconnaissance vessel had also been hit.

Russia issued no immediate statement in response.

Ukraine has taken a number of hits on Russia’s Black Sea Fleet, which Moscow utilized to project power into the Mediterranean and Middle East prior to the war.

Russia appointed a new head of navy earlier this month, which Ukraine interpreted as an implicit recognition of the success of Russian naval attacks despite the weakness of Ukrainian naval assets.
